Top 9 Dangerous Chemicals found in Your beauty products

Taking steps to have a healthy home has been a journey. It's been a very eye opening journey to say the least. I have found out that the personal care/ beauty industry is highly unregulated. There is a small approval process for color additives and over the counter drugs but that's about it. Many of the chemicals found in our personal care products contain endocrine disruptors, reproductive issues, skin irritants, cause respiratory issues and cause cancer. The top 9 harmful chemicals you should avoid are listed below.

Parabens- possess estrogen-mimicking properties that are assoicated with increased risk of breast cancer. These chemicals are absorbed through the skin and have been identified in biopsy samples from breast tumors. They are found in makeup, body washes, deodorants, shampoos and facial cleansers. Parabens can also be found in food and pharmaceutical products.

Synthetic colors- These colors are derived from petroleum or coal tar sources. Synthetic colors are suspected to be a human carcinogen, a skin irritant and are linked to ADHD in children.

Fragrance- the category was a term created to protect a company's secrete formula. They have been associated with allergies, dermatitis, respiratory distress and potential effects on the reproductive system. They can be found in products such as perfume, cologne, conditioner, shampoo, body wash and moisturizers.

Phthalates- they are known to be endocrine disruptors and have been linked to increased risk of breast cancer and early breast development in girls. It has an increased risk on reproductive birth defects in males and females. Unfortunately, it is not disclosed on every product as it's added to fragrances (secrete formula). They can be found in deodorants, perfumes/colones, hair sprays and moisturizers.

Triclosan- it's used as a antimicrobial that is known as an endocrine disruptor- especially the thyroid and reproductive hormones and a skin irritant. Toothpaste, antibacterial soaps and deodorants my contain triclosan.

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS)/ Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES)- They are known to be skin, lung and eye irritants. A major concern about SLS is it's potential to interact and combine with other chemicals to form nitrosamines, a carcinogen. These combinations can lead to a host of other issues like kidney and respiratory damage. They are found in shampoos, body wash/cleansers, mascara and acne treatment.

Formaldehyde-This chemical was deemed as a carcinogen by the International Agency for Research on Carcinogens. It has been linked to occupational related cancers; nasal and nasopharngeal. It's know to cause allergic skin reactions and it may also be harmful to the immune system. It can be found in nail polish, body washes, conditioners, shampoos and cleansers, eye shadows, nail polish treatments.

Tolune- A petrochemical derived from petroleum or coal tar sources. It can effect the repsiratory system, cause nausea, irritate your skin. Vapors may cause developmental damage in the fetus. It has been linked to immune system toxicity. it can be found in nail polish, nail treatments and hair and color bleaching products.

Proplylene Glycol- It has been associated with dermatitis as well as hives in humans. It can be found in moisturizers, sunscreen, makeup products, conditioners, shampoos and hair sprays.

Young Living has so many personal care/ beauty products as well as household cleaning products that are safe to use around the house and on your body. I personally love the Thieves Household cleaner because, it has replaced most of my cleaning products around the house. I only need the Thieves Cleaner instead of 5 different cleaning products.

I have enjoyed using the ART Facial Cleansing System on my face. I love the fact that I am using REAL botanical on my skin. It's free of all those harsh chemicals mentioned above. My favorite body wash I use daily is the Sensation Body wash by Young Living. I like the way it smells and it's supporting my body at the same time instead of harming it. The Saavy Mineral Makeup line is so exciting!!!! I can't wait to get it in my shipment this month! Completely free of toxic chemicals.

There is something for the whole family. I use the Kidscents body wash and shampoo once I found out the dangers of using Johnson and Johnson.

I truly believe it's the chemicals listed above that has caused me so much heart ache with my reproductive system. I am so extremely lucky to be a mother today. I am not going to allow these chemicals in my home any longer. I don't want my children to experience the pain I have had to deal with my infertility issues.
